Complexity's Inspirational Ascension, and Future Potential.

Since 2021, one team has stood out to me amongst the rest in the RLCS. That team, in 2021, being True Neutral. Turning me into a fan while they were still playing in South America. The team consisted of Reysbull, ajg. and shad. In late 2021 they moved over to the North American region and instantly made a splash! They played the first and second Fall events under the org True Neutral still, and placed top 3 in the 2nd event! After these results they got picked up by a bigger org, Complexity Gaming, and they were off and running. The South American powerhouses ended up conquering Space Station Gaming in an epic tiebreaker, to make the Fall Major! After the dust had settled they did very well at the Major, getting taken down by the eventual winners, Team BDS, and finished 5th-8th. Though, after this Major they went through a bit of a low period where they ended up not making anymore as stronger teams arose in North America through the 2021-2022 season. The hunger and determination remained in the players, though.

Going into the 2022-2023 season in September, they made a roster move, removing shad, and bringing over star player crr from Europe. Yet this was not the only change brewing, Reysbull and ajg. had been working hard over the offseason; Reysbull began grinding 1s and establishing himself as a top 1s player in the game. While ajg. continued on a steady incline as well in his own gameplay. This roster was determined to succeed and prove the move to NA worth it, and with the grind and work ethic of the players; especially the insane ascension from Reysbull into a top player in the world it was sure to pay off.

Headed into the Fall Split in 2022, this team had pretty decent expectations from outsiders. Although, no one was picking them to win any events yet, other than the true fans. The Fall Split began with their results not quite going as good as most expected with them dropping out of the first event 9th-11th; although it should be noted crr had only just arrived on American soil and the team had some unfortunate personal family matters which in turn ended up lowering their stock a bit. In the next two fall events the team lived more up to expectations, some may even say out performing them a little. They finished 5th-8th in both of the next 2 events; yet still were not able to make the Fall Major. Although they did not make the Major they showed flashes of brilliance, being able to sometimes take down America’s top teams, such as Gen G.

With the Winter Split ahead and most people hopping off the Complexity being a top team belief train, it seemed inevitable that this had to be the Split that raised them up and proved to everyone they were finally here. They heard the chatter, and it happened, in all 3 Winter events Complexity placed top 4 or better, only losing to the eventual winners, and securing themselves a place at the Winter Major. Now, by this point you would think that the scene would start to respect them more, with all that said. Yet going in you heard nothing about them, or them having any shot to be a top team at the major. (I tried warning everyone, they didn't listen). At the Winter Major Complexity finally began to gain believers as they made it further and further into the tournament, eventually losing in a game 7 against Faze Clan, that would've taken them to the finals if they had won. A top 4 at the Major surely should've woken everyone up by now that this team is going to be legit, right? Sadly, it seemed to still not be enough, with the top teams in North America not giving them the respect they deserved and calling it a fluke run. At this point, though, the team itself knew they were pushing for the top, while still not quite having won an event, they were competing with the top teams in the world consistently. That then takes us to this past month or so.

The Spring Split is here, the final chance for teams to show how good they are and vie for Worlds spots. After the Major, Complexity had their sights set on the Spring Open, the first event of the new Split. They came out the gates hot, beating everyone in their path; a newly formed super team in Version 1, a hot and exciting Optic Gaming Squad and the team that doubted them the most, Gen G. They took down Gen G not only once, but twice, to finally crown themselves the North American Spring Open Champions. After all the work and sacrifice put in, they had finally conquered NA and gotten their win.

This isn't where this ends though, this team of ever improving underdogs who you already know want more, a Major win, as well as to be called World Champions; and I believe they have a serious chance to do it. This team has proven they are never happy with their results, they have proven they defy all odds, and they have proven the determination to get better each and everyday, both individually, and as a team. When you have Reysbull's masterful climb to greatness, AJG holding down the backlines, CRR slotting and stepping up when need be, and lastly their coach Agüesome jousting his way in to be called one of the best coaches in the game. This gives you the combination of a team that can win Majors and even Worlds. They have conquered all odds that have been against them, from moving to a whole new region, to struggling to qualify for majors, to rising up and being a dominant team at the top of NA and even the world.

So with all that said, next time you doubt Complexity, don't. Read this back and ask yourself, why not them? This is the Inspirational ascension, and future potential of Complexity Gaming.
